Erica Mekles is a trial attorney who concentrates her practice on high exposure product liability matters for a range of manufacturers including medical device, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, automobile, recreational vehicle, and plumbing. She also has extensive experience handling toxic tort matters and defending complex commercial contract disputes.
Erica has extensive trial experience. As a member of several trial teams, she has traveled across the country rigorously working to defend her clients in a wide range of product liability matters. She started her career as a prosecutor in Florida, where she appeared as lead trial counsel in more than 100 jury trials. While her core practice is focused on litigating life sciences cases involving claims for damages alleged to arise from defective medical device and pharmaceutical products, her general consumer and commercial product practice is equally vibrant. Additionally, she has substantial experience coordinating class actions and third-party litigation.
Erica has vast experience developing and implementing broad defense litigation strategy and discovery practices, in addition to the daily management of cases. She develops cross-examination themes and outlines for depositions of fact and expert witnesses. She has authored numerous briefs to support dismissal of cases in their early stages, for summary judgment, and to exclude experts.
In addition to her product liability practice, Erica is dedicated to pro bono work within her community and beyond. She has represented numerous domestic violence victims and children seeking legal immigration status in the United States.
