Michael Hecht has over 25 years of experience in product liability litigation, with a focus in the life sciences industry. He represents clients at the state, federal and international level in product liability and mass tort litigation, including numerous MDLs and state court consolidations.
Known for his strategic approach to complex litigation and his command of the scientific and medical issues, Michael leads expert development and company case analysis for high stakes matters. Clients rely on Michael to work closely with external experts, in-house scientific teams and co-counsel to evaluate critical issues, build strong defenses and prepare cases for trial. He is also tasked with conducting fact depositions on bellwether and other early cases in coordinated proceedings to help create the benchmarks for such depositions in the litigation and set cases up for successful expert workup. His work in pharmaceutical and medical device litigation, as well as on other chemicals and specialized medical foods, has given him deep knowledge in areas such as endocrinology, bone biology and metabolism, metabolic bone disease, gastroenterology, nutrition and dietetics, oral surgery, dentistry, orthopedic surgery, orthopedic biomechanics, radiology, neurology, psychiatry, addiction medicine and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Michael has participated in and managed every stage of litigation, including representing clients in trial and hearings, conducting Science Days for courts, taking and defending fact and expert depositions, preparing key witnesses for testimony, providing business guidance on medical, regulatory, public affairs, and marketing issues and helping clients resolve matters at mediation and arbitration. Michael’s practice also includes complex commercial disputes, premises liability, negligence, business torts and advising clients on risk management as well as domestic, criminal and civil rights matters.
Outside of being an attorney, Michael enjoys spending time with his family and friends, challenging himself on ropes courses, coaching youth soccer and trying new wines.
