Minneapolis, MN (January 20, 2014) – Bowman and Brooke LLP, a nationally recognized trial law firm focused on defending high-stakes product liability and mass tort cases, today announced it is one of five firms named Practice Group of the Year in Product Liability by Law360. It was the fifth consecutive year in which Law360 bestowed this honor on Bowman & Brooke. The firm is one of only 10 elite groups recognized so consistently across all of its practice categories.

The 200-attorney firm, which features one of the largest product liability groups in the country, was recognized for significant defense verdicts, including favorable verdicts in two bellwether trials.

One was for Toyota Motor Corporation in its unintended acceleration multidistrict bellwether case in California, Uno v Toyota. Led by San Jose, California-based Executive Managing Partner Vincent Galvin and Columbia, South Carolina-based Managing Partner Joel Smith, the firm also serves as lead product liability defense counsel for all personal injury and wrongful death cases in the Toyota unintended acceleration litigation.

The other bellwether defense verdict was on behalf of medical device manufacturer Breg Inc. in the first California infusion pump mass tort to go to trial. The Breg verdict was one of two major defense verdicts Bowman and Brooke won on a single day, McKenna v Breg and Lewis v. Ford.

“This recognition fully illustrates our strength and dedication to products defense nationally,” said Firm Chairman David W. Graves, Jr. “For nearly 30 years, it has been a privilege to defend many of the world's largest companies—it will continue to be our drive and focus.”

Among many other major manufacturers, Bowman and Brooke also currently represents helmet-maker Riddell Inc. in the concussion MDL brought by former NFL players and a class action involving the NCAA.

The editors of Law360 reviewed nearly 675 entries in multiple practice areas, submitted by 130 law firms. The judges then selected 154 practice groups at 69 firms as Practice Groups of the Year. The top honorees were selected based on the significance of the litigation wins or deals worked on between November 1, 2012, and November 1, 2013; the size and complexity of the litigation wins or deals worked on during that period; and the number of significant, large, or complex deals worked on. In a separate article, Law360 highlighted that Bowman and Brooke is one of only 10 elite groups honored in all years of the awards.
