Roshan Rajkumar, the Chair of Bowman and Brooke’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee and Co-Managing Partner of the Minneapolis office, has been recognized by Minnesota Lawyer as a 2019 Diversity and Inclusion Honoree for his unwavering commitment and endless contributions to making Minnesota’s legal community more diverse and inclusive.
Minnesota Lawyer teamed up with members of various Affinity Bar associations affiliated with the Minnesota State Bar Association to develop selection criteria. 25 honorees were selected by an outside panel of judges. Honorees were selected based on their “consistent track record in advocating for diversity and inclusion” – not only through words but, more importantly, through action.
In his nearly two-decade career as an attorney, Roshan has done just that. By actively living out his commitment to making the legal profession a more open and welcoming space, Roshan has been a tireless advocate and an infectious leader in the diversity and inclusion arena. Ever since he became a lawyer, Roshan has made it his personal mission to mentor and coach attorneys from historically marginalized communities to help diversify the field. What started as an initiative has become a life-long pursuit, as he continues to work tirelessly to guide, nurture, and cultivate female attorneys, attorneys of color, and attorneys who identify as LGTBQ. As he said, “I’ve had mentors and coaches all my life to help me get to where I am today. I want to make sure that attorneys [from underrepresented communities] are also provided with the same level of support that I had.”
This value of “leading by giving back” is precisely why he continues to be a relevant and effective mentor, coach, and sponsor, as he ushers in the next generation of attorneys. His track record proves that he values the success of the community over the individual, given the decades-long commitment he has made to diversifying the legal field by helping to launch the careers of attorneys from underrepresented backgrounds, one mentee at a time. Roshan is truly worthy and deserving to be honored by Minnesota Lawyer in this way.
As an honoree, Roshan will be profiled in the Diversity & Inclusion magazine. A reception and awards ceremony will take place on October 10, 2019, at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, where Roshan will be recognized for his efforts and contribution.
