Firm Makes Debut at #221 on 'The NLJ 250' List

Bowman and Brooke is pleased to announce its debut in The National Law Journal's annual survey of the biggest U.S. firms by headcount, landing a spot at #221! "The NLJ 250" was published on Monday, March 26th, including short profiles of the 15 firms that entered (or rejoined) the list. The National Law Journal described Bowman and Brooke and its 181 attorneys in the following write-up.

"The firm is one of the lead defense counsels for Toyota Motor Corp. in the sudden-acceleration multidistrict litigation. It's the lead firm in multidistrict litigation against Yamaha Motor Corp. alleging defects of its Rhino all-terrain vehicle and helmet manufacturer Riddell Inc. in the National Football League concussion cases. The caseload prompted the firm to open Austin and Dallas, Texas, offices in February 2011. Other offices are in Columbia, S.C.; Gardena and San Jose, Calif.; Phoenix; Richmond, Va.; and Troy, Mich. In 2011, the firm added 15 partners and had a net gain of eight nonpartner lawyers. "There are a lot of opportunities with our existing clients, our new clients…[and] for partners at other firms," said executive managing partner Paul Cereghini."

Columbia Partner Wins "2012 Burton Award For Legal Achievement"
Dick Willis, Partner in the Columbia, South Carolina office of Bowman and Brooke received the "2012 Distinguished Legal Writing Award" for his article"'Ten Commandments of Cross-Examination' Get A Much-Needed Revision," which first appeared in South Carolina Lawyers Weekly and again in Michigan Lawyers Weekly.  The Burton Awards for Legal Achievement recognize the thirty-five best law firm writers of the year, and the winners are chosen from the entries submitted by the nation's 1,000 largest and most prestigious law firms. Dick's article was chosen for conveying effective legal writing, as the program honors partners in law firms and law school students who use plain, clear and concise language in their writing. Firm Recognized by Law360 for Third Consecutive Year!

For the third year in a row, Bowman and Brooke has been recognized by Law360 as a Product Liability Group of the Year! The article boasts, "Amid [those] gargantuan undertakings, the nearly 200-attorney firm, which specializes in product defense matters, delivered a staggering stream of favorable verdicts for its clients, saving them tens of millions of dollars in some cases." Bowman and Brooke is one of only two firms to ever claim this honor for three consecutive years. Law360 received more than 550 submissions last November, and a committee of Law360 editors reviewed and selected winners based on: the significance of the litigation wins or deals worked on throughout the year; the size of and complexity of the litigation wins or deals worked on; and the number of significant, large or complex deals the firms worked on or lawsuits the firm had wins in. Accomplishments from Dec. 1, 2010, to Dec. 1, 2011, were considered.

William F. Auther, Partner in Phoenix, AZ, has just been appointed by the Arizona Supreme Court to the Arizona Commission on Judicial Performance Review! The commission is mandated by the Arizona Constitution and is made up of 18 public members, only six lawyers and six judges are involved. The Commission sets performance standards for judges, decides whether or not a judge meets those standards, and reports to the public in advance of the retention election cycle for each judge. The commission is responsible for all Arizona Supreme Court Justices, all Appellate Court Judges, and all trial court judges in Maricopa, Pima and Pinal Counties. Congratulations, Will!
