Ryan A. McCarthy

Biography

Ryan McCarthy's practice is focused almost entirely on defending major product manufacturers against claims that their products were defective or failed to comply with the terms of an express warranty.  Ryan is actively involved in all aspects of a claim, from the pre-litigation investigation and assessment, through the often contentious discovery process, to trial and post-trial motions.  He works with in-house engineers as well as independent consultants, and guides the strategic development of the defense in order to present a strong position in pretrial settlement negotiations and ultimately at the time of trial.  This work has made Ryan uniquely attuned to the legal and factual contentions that product litigation matters raise.  He works to understand all the technical and design aspects of his clients' products, including automobiles, motorcycles, ATVs and helmets.  His keen understanding of the product equips him to respond in all stages of litigation with confidence and poise as he stands up for the product and stands by his client.

Ryan manages his cases efficiently and effectively by gearing his efforts towards an early evaluation that provides the client with a detailed analysis of the strengths and weaknesses presented by the particular case, a realistic assessment of potential exposure, and a strategy for bringing about the best outcome.  Focusing on early evaluations ensures that claims are prioritized and managed correctly, while remaining ever-mindful of the obligation to keep costs down.

When Ryan is not in Court hearings, deposing the plaintiff or a key witness, or engaged in product inspections, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, golfing and reading.
