Dallas Partner Yesenia Cárdenas and Columbia Associate Patrick Cleary discuss the effects of digital security breaches on product liability litigation at an ABA Roundtable presented by the Product Liability Committee and The Automotive Sub-Committee.

“Invasion of the Car Snatchers: What Happened in the Wired Jeep Hacking Story and What it Means for Electronics-related Product Liability Litigation, both Automotive and Beyond.”

Date: Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Eastern

Last summer, WIRED magazine published a story recounting a terrifying story of a hacked Jeep vehicle. Two hackers remotely gained access to the vehicle's Wi-Fi network and sent commands to the vehicle's brakes and throttle. The hack was the first published account of a remote breach of a vehicle's digital security.

As consumer products become more and more interconnected through wireless networks, digital security breaches seem inevitable. The next breach is a question of when, not if.

Panelists of the Roundtable will discuss how the hackers controlled the vehicle, other consumer products which may be vulnerable to digital security breaches and the effects of digital security breaches on products liability litigation.
